Jennifer is the Executive Director of the Tasmanian and International Chapters of the Australian Institute of Architects, where she leads the troops with charm and a calm and steady hand. Jennifer has a Bachelor of Environmental Design and a Bachelor of Architecture (Hons) from the University of Tasmania, where she produced a (unaired) pilot for a television program about architecture as her dissertation project. After graduating, Jennifer moved to Tasmania’s West Coast and taught various subjects, including metal work and timber design at one of the local high schools. During this time she also worked in tourism and hospitality, before moving to Western Australia, where she worked for a local children’s fashion label and taught maths and drawing at the Centre for Aboriginal Studies at Curtin University. Moving back to Tasmania, Jennifer worked jointly at the Institute as the Professional Services Coordinator and with graphic designers, Futago, coordinating the procurement of public art projects. In 2012 Jennifer took on the challenging role of managing the Institute’s Tasmanian Chapter, working tirelessly to provide high-level services to members as well as lifting the profile of the profession in Tasmania and highlighting the value architecture brings to the state’s unique built environment. Jennifer is the founder of Open House Hobart, and continues five years on as one of the producers of this free public event. She continues to develop a diverse range of public engagement events to promote the architectural profession in Tasmania and her combined vision and dedication have helped the Tasmanian Chapter of the Institute move beyond its role as a members’ body to embrace the wider community and highlight the contribution architects make to society.
