An opportunity has opened up for a research assistant in Architecture & Design at The University of Tasmania’s Launceston campus.

The Discipline of Architecture & Design seeks to appoint a research assistant at either Level A or Level B, depending on the experience of the candidate. While the position is advertised as a 1.0 FTE appointment, a fractional appointment (0.4 or greater) will be considered. The appointment will be for five years (and may be renewable based on performance).

Architecture & Design is one of three disciplines in the School of Technology, Environments & Design, in the College of Sciences & Engineering. The School is a vibrant centre for world-class research, learning and teaching on the interactions between humans and the natural, built and digital environments.

Applications are welcome from across the broad range of fields of enquiry encapsulated by the Discipline of Architecture & Design, including:
Technology and Technics Materials innovation, especially timber-rich and new bio-tech materials. Environmental performance of buildings, spaces and materials allied to global imperatives for environmental and social sustainability. Integration of virtual and augmented reality / computer-aided design and conceptualisation / Computer Numerically Controlled fabrication / etc, engaging with the breadth of design thinking in building design and prefabrication and broader computer-aided manufacturing in the built environment.
Enabling Places Contemporary modes of design practice, including collaborative and participatory models that engage and enable communities. Interfaces between performing and media arts, architecture and design.
Practice and Pedagogy Architecture and design history and theory. Envisioning resilient futures in the design of sustainable, healthy and inclusive environments in regional communities. Situated research engaging with cultural and heritage contexts, from natural landscapes to built environments.
