Parlour Lab brings research discussions in architecture and the built environment to the wider professional community.

Parlour Lab helps bridge the gap between practice and research, providing a platform for researchers to speak to new audiences and an opportunity for the world of practice to engage with research. The series is convened by Kali Marnane and Rebecca McLaughlan. Macarena de la Vega de León was instrumental in establishing the series and co-hosted the first events.

Held on Friday lunchtimes AEST / AEDT, each session features short presentations from an established academic and an emerging researcher, followed by Q&A session led by Kali and Rebecca or Amanda.

Each month our two guest researchers talk about what they do, why is it relevant and how they do it.

Watch Kali and Macarena chat about the Lab series and do get in touch if you would like to be involved and share your research.

CPD

Formal CPD is available for each session. We will provide a set of questions for each session, which will ask you to reflect on what you have learned, and what it means in the context of your professional practice.

The response can be submitted via an online form for each session. You will receive an email with your responses as evidence of attendance and completion for the session. Please keep the response email for your records. Note a separate certificate will not be issued.

Learning objectives

The learning objectives of the series as a whole relate to the Practice Management and Design Units of Competency and are as follows:

  • To increase knowledge of research topics and projects underway in the built environment disciplines
  • To explore the potential to activate research findings and processes within practice
  • To increase understanding of a range of research methodologies and approaches
  • To consider how research and practice-based modes of knowledge might inflect and inform each other
  • To increase understanding of diverse career paths within the built environment
  • To develop connections between practitioners and researchers
