On Thursday 21 February, the Not in My Workplace (NIMW) initiative will officially launch with its first #NotInMyWorkplace Summit at the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre.

Attendees will hear from Sex Discrimination Commissioner Kate Jenkins and Emeritus Professor Gillian Triggs, former President of the Australian Human Rights Commission, as well as politicians, industry leaders and lawyers in a wide-ranging discussion on the action needed to mobilise business and employees to ensure sexual harassment does not occur in Australian workplaces.

Event organisers invite all business leaders concerned with sexual harassment in the workplace – CEOs, Board members, Directors, Executive teams, male and female, young and aspiring leaders. The Summit will be a forum for networking, important conversations and connecting with colleagues to make workplaces better. It will feature a program of keynote addresses, panel discussions and professional development workshops.

NIMW was recently established to tackle workplace sexual harassment and better arm Australian business leaders with the knowledge and practical skills to prevent and eradicate inappropriate behaviour.

The brainchild of some of Australia’s prominent women business leaders from high profile organisations including Boral Australia, BUPA, Women’s Health Victoria and Guide Dogs Victoria, the initiative aims to provide a much-needed call to action following the #MeToo movement, seeking to turn awareness into action and make workplace sexual harassment everyone’s business.

Karen Bollinger, NIMW Summit Chair and Chief Executive Officer of the Melbourne Convention Bureau, explains that it’s time for our business leaders to take control of the conversation and incite real and lasting change.

“The idea came about at an informal meeting between a number of female CEOs, back in 2017 when the Harvey Weinstein allegations first surfaced. We all said: ‘Wouldn’t you die if this happened on our watch?’ So, we agreed we needed more action,” she said.

“The inaugural #NotInMyWorkplace Summit will educate, empower and provide practical advice, so that together, we can drive both systematic and societal change. I call on any business leader, male or female, established or aspiring, to take responsibility and help to end workplace sexual harassment.”
