Transport planning, urban design and urban planning with a human-focus
Side Project Australia ; Curtin University

I am a transport, urban design and urban planning professional focused on promoting sustainable places within urban communities. Currently I am an Adjunct Senior Research Fellow at Curtin University Sustainability Policy (CUSP) Institute, Curtin University, Perth, Western Australia, and co-founder of Side Project Australia which designs and builds community focused parklets. Prior to this I was a Senior Project Officer (Transport) at the City of Fremantle, Western Australia and Lecturer and Research Fellow at CUSP. My interests include creating sustainable, vibrant and people-focused urban places. My research focus is on place making, active transport (walking and cycling) planning, infrastructure and policy needs, rail and public transport and urban design, focusing on how people interact with the built environment, and the human health outcomes of planning decisions. I have worked for State and Local Government along with Academia and consultancy, including Gehl Architects. With co-author Peter Newman, I recently released People Cities: The Life and Legacy of Jan Gehl (2016, Island Press; Danish, 2016; Chinese and Japanese editions forthcoming).
