Rebecca McLaughlan

Research Fellow & Studio Leader
University of Melbourne

Rebecca is an architectural educator and research fellow at the Melbourne School of Design. She was the first scholar to have completed a comprehensive interrogation of New Zealand’s history of mental hospital architecture, inspired by the nineteenth-century theory that the careful articulation of architecture and landscape could aid the restoration of sanity. Her current research takes place at the intersection of architecture, medicine and psychology, with particular interests in palliative care, psychiatric and paediatric hospital facilities. Concurrently she is pursuing research in teaching innovation for architecture and higher education more broadly. Rebecca is a New Zealand-registered architect with expertise in high end and social housing.
