<p>Founding Director & Architect at Studio ilk Architecture & Interiors.</p> <p>Kate is passionate about the preservation and adaption of heritage buildings and particularly the ethos of sustainable principles surrounding the retention of extant built fabric and the embodied energy these existing buildings contain. </p> <p>She relishes the challenge of difficult sites with complex constraints, with an emphasis on supporting and guiding clients through design and approval process which is typically not linear and often not what people expect, particularly if navigating heritage controls and contexts. </p> <p>Kate is also committed to improving the path for women in the construction industry and in particular the architectural profession.</p> <p>Graduating with honors from UTAS in 2003, Kate spent her formative architectural training working on a range of residential, commercial, healthcare and education project both in Tasmania and overseas in the UK.</p> <p>Eventually drawn back to the superlative landscape of her home state of Tasmania, Kate worked at Philp Lighton Architects in the north of the state where she became a registered architect in 2007, before relocating back to her hometown of Hobart to recommence work with MGA before taking over Directorship in 2016.</p> <p>After 4.5 years as Director at MGA.I, Kate seized the opportunity for change presented by a tumultuous 2020, to pivot from co-directing MGA.I to launch her own Architecture and Interiors practice Studio ilk.</p>
