Ella Leoncio

Chamberlain Architects

Ella is a Principal at Chamberlain Architects. Working predominantly on single and multi residential projects, she is mainly involved in concept and schematic design.

She is passionate about architecture's potential to enrich our daily experience. Throughout the design process, she observes both the private rituals of residents as well as the impact on the wider urban fabric. Working between medium density residential and high-end single houses, she is interested in how these two scales can learn from one another.

Whilst residential architecture is her core practice, Ella has always been fascinated by the cross-pollination of disciplines and its potential to give birth to new ways of thinking. This has lead her to design and build installations, as well as set designs for dance works. Her set for the dance piece "Island" by James Batchelor was nominated for Best Visual Design at the Green Room Awards.

Ella is also a freelance writer and currently contributes regularly to Architecture Media publications. She was once author of the blog "Pages from my Moleskine" and was a regular contributor for "Yellowtrace" for several years.

She has also acted as a guest crit at both the University of Melbourne and RMIT in both Architecture and Interior Design. She was a scholar at the University of Melbourne where she completed her studies in 2006.
