The Monash Faculty of Art, Design and Architecture (MADA) is seeking an Innovation Fellow to work with the Department of Architecture in 2020.

MADA seeks innovative practitioners and academics from around the world to collaborate in its teaching and research programs. MADA sees innovation as a foundation for advocating alternatives and cultivating imagination, to provide visions, strategies, techniques and approaches to addressing our evolving built environments. For this reason, MADA periodically advertises the role of Innovation Fellow, the thematic focus of which changes with each call.

In 2020, MADA is particularly interested in projects centrally motivated by environmental sustainability in architecture and the built environment. There is a particular interest in studies of digital design and fabrication, and advanced approaches to architectural structure and construction with awareness of their implications for both the production and occupation of the built environment.

MADA is also specifically interested in projects that utilise its state-of-the-art studio and workshop facilities. The faculty has a remarkably well-equipped suite of spaces that enable a full range of techniques from traditional to high-tech – from bronze and glass casting to printmaking, to digital fabrication and architectural robotics. Teaching and research projects that propose applied, interdisciplinary use of the workshops will be well-regarded. More information on the workshops is available here.

The one-year fellowship involves the pursuit of a clearly articulated research project in combination with research-led teaching. Fellows will be expected to run a design studio each semester and at least one advanced architectural elective (‘studies unit’).

Candidates must have at least a Master of Architecture degree or equivalent.

The fellowship is available to begin in July 2020 and includes:

  • salary within the range of $97,203 – $115,429 plus 9.5% employer superannuation
  • A$3,000 research allowance
  • return economy airfare to Melbourne
  • two weeks of transit accommodation and assistance finding ongoing accommodation.

Applications are due by 20 January 2020. For further information about the role and the requirements of your application, see the full job description.
