This year, architectural education was suddenly and rapidly transformed, with academics dramatically redesigning and delivering architectural education using brand new techniques and tools. At the same time, staff were called upon to be flexible and accommodating to their stressed and anxious students, and to provide unprecedented levels of pastoral care. While all of this was happening, the nation’s universities fell into a massive financial hole, and many schools of architecture throughout the country have previously, or are now, in the process of staff layoffs.

But has it been the year from hell for architecture academics? Are there some silver linings? What lessons can we take forward? In this session, architecture academic Dr Deborah Ascher Barnstone of UTS and Organisational Behaviour expert Dr Libby Sander, will join Naomi and Justine to discuss the wellbeing of architecture academics in this strangest of years.
