Add your story to The Architects of Victoria, the digital time capsule being created at Federation Square as part of its Federation Story project.

Ron Smith, co-ordinator of Federation Story, is particularly keen to have many stories from women architects – he tells us he wants “floods of lady architects”.

The Architects of Victoria digital time capsule will be organised by geographic themes – Central City, Suburbs of Melbourne and Country Towns – and will present diverse stories from architects working in a wide range of practices  – different sizes, different locations, different types.

The result will be a history told through the personal stories of architects who, individually and collectively, have made major, diverse contributions.

If you are interested to participate you can upload your story directly. This could include the following

  • A concise article of approximately 500 words
  • A photograph of themselves in front of the building discussed
  • A before and after look at a project
  • Short iphone videos two to three minutes
  • Three to five photos
  • Link to your website for more information

Stories might be about a particular project, or about a vision for the future of the state. Ron suggests the following as “thought starters”:

  • The first project I undertook as an architect
  • The project I consider as one of my most challenging
  • The project I consider your most significant building
  • My vision, as an architect, of Melbourne in 2050

You can also look at  the recent Marysville Wish You Were Here time capsule  to see the type of themes and structure of submissions. Note that Fed Story “Architects of Victoria” project is for personal stories of architects not for company corporate profiles.

The Architects of Melbourne will be officially launched in February at Fed Square. It will be widely promoted to the press, social media and educational institutions.

The Victorian Chapter of the Australian Institute of Architects is assisting with the development of The Architects of Victoria as part of its partnership with Fed Square.

The project is being co-ordinated for Fed Square by Ron Smith Corporate Media Communications. Send him an email at ronsmith@medialaunch.com.au for further information and a promotional kit.
