Suzanne (Suzie) Hunt B.Arch (Hons) LFRAIA RIBA is a successful architect, businesswoman, mentor, board member, TV presenter and public speaker. Suzie established the award-winning boutique architectural and interior design practice Suzanne Hunt Architect in 2004 and has more than 35 years of working in WA and the UK in all sectors.
Leadership | In 2017 she was the first woman to be elected president of the WA Chapter of the Australian Institute of Architects a role she embraced. During her tenure Suzie fiercely advocated for the architectural profession, good design and in particular the issues of equity, diversity and inclusion for women - establishing #WorkWomenWisdom a grass roots advocacy group that continues to this day. Her advocacy extended to writing a column called The Architects Brief for a local paper that explained the benefit of using an architect and what architects actually do!
Advocacy Awards | Suzie won the 2021 National Paula Whitman Prize for Gender Equity and in 2022 was awarded the esteemed [WA] Architects Board Award for her advocacy work outside of her busy practice promoting architects, good design and gender equity, diversity and inclusion. In 2023 she was appointed a Life Fellow of The Australian Institute of Architects for her professional work and advocacy of the profession and women in particular. Her advocacy extends to writing columns for Parlours platform including reflective pieces for the Personal Stories segment.
Presenter | A multi-faceted professional since 2017 Suzie has been a TV presenter on the Australia By Design suite of programmes - Architecture, Interiors, Hotels and Innovations broadcast on Channel 10. In addition Suziee has been interviewed for local, national and international print media, local radio and national TV.
Speaker | An engaging speaker Suzie has spoken at numerous events including Parlour's Transformation Conference, 2019 Curtin University Concessional Speech, NAWIC, Rotary, Zonta, the WA Chapter of the RAIA and at local schools. She runs the Parlour Salons in Perth her hometown and was speaker on the Parlour podcast about Domestic Abuse from the perspective of a survivor and an architect discussing the new DV laws for practices.
Board Member | In addition to running her boutique design practice with 6 staff Suzie has sat as a non-executive board member on the Rottnest Island Authority 2009 - 2019 (paid position), the City of Melville Architecture and Urban Deign Panel and is currently Chair of the Curtin Architecture Advisory Board, Member of the Curtin School Design and Built Environment Panel and as the Deputy Community Representative of the WA Legal Practice Complaints Committee (paid position).
Family | For a number of years a single mother of four young children, she and her partner now have a blended family of 6 young adults. Her personal experiences juggling caring roles with professional and personal demands inform her mentoring and championing of equity, diversity and inclusion and sustainable work practices for all, now and into the future.
