Jenny Edwards

Director & Scientist
Light House Architecture & Science

Jenny is Director and Science Team Leader at Light House Architecture & Science (formerly known as Jigsaw Housing).

With a passion for science, maths, art and people – plus exposure to great design during her childhood when her parents twice built architect-designed, sustainability-conscious homes in south eastern Tasmania – Jenny has always had an interest in clever and beautiful buildings.

When enrolling at university she found it hard to choose between architecture, science and engineering - a broad science degree was the winner. Post-graduate scholarships took her from Tasmania to the Australian National University where she dabbled in molecular genetics before finally finding her niche in 'Science Communication'. Jenny discovered that she enjoyed communicating science to people a lot more than being in the laboratory! It allowed her career to broaden to include a wide range of different sciences and finally brought her back to architecture, construction, energy efficiency and sustainability in 2008.

She has used her science training (BSc MSc GradCert EnvHealth) in a variety of roles: from research and education to public relations and policy. Her former energy efficiency consulting business – Scinergy – won the ACT Sustainable Cities Energy Innovation Award in 2010 and Light House again won this award in 2016. In 2015 Jenny won the'Outstanding in Industry' award from the ACT branch of the National Association of Women in Construction. She is an ACT licensed Building Energy Efficiency Assessor and in 2008 she introduced the building envelope testing techniques of thermal imaging and air leakage testing to the Canberra region.
